Responsible management of manufacturing processes and suppliers

To reach our social, environmental and manufacturing goals

A large part of the Calzedonia supply chain is made up of companies that are part of the Group, which we manage directly and entirely. Although we are well aware that there is room for improvement, we’re proud of the social, environmental and manufacturing results we achieve daily.

Information relating to the management of these companies can be found in the ‘Our manufacturing facilities’ and ‘Our people’ sections.

In this section, however, we will summarize the way we manage the purchase from third-party suppliers of raw materials, finished goods, and ‘non-core’ materials (i.e. those not directly linked to the production of the garments we sell in our shops).

The purchase process in a group that produces widely-consumed products and which wants to keep costs low for the end consumer involves various complications:

  • We must find raw materials and products that satisfy consumer demands and tastes;
  • These materials and products need to not only be beautiful, but safe for the wearer;
  • They need to have reasonable, sustainable costs for our business model;
  • Lastly, they need to be manufactured under civil, sustainable conditions.

The way down this path is not always easy, as a series of incidents which have impacted other important groups has demonstrated, and it is important to fully verify the production chain.

It isn’t always possible to be absolutely sure that things are done in the best way possible, which is why we need everyone's commitment so that, in-line with their business model, the key players in the market and the production and distribution chain can head down a path of continuous gradual improvement.

We have started down this road and we will continue along it with intention and clarity. Here’s how we manage our purchases today and the improvements we intend to implement.

In addition to the commitments stated in the "Production Facilities" section, the Group has set important goals also in the area of suppliers and use of materials:

  • Requiring all our suppliers accept our Code of Ethics as a precondition to working with us;
  • Diminishing the use of non-recyclable materials and unnecessary packaging;
  • Drastically reducing the use of materials of animal origin, such as fur, even if coming from certified farms;
  • Constantly adding to the list of harmful or potentially harmful substances not to be used in our garments;
  • Constantly seeking out environmentally-friendly and sustainable solutions.

We intend to report periodically to our stakeholders on the progress made in various industries.
