Benji ltd

Located just a few kilometres from the city of Wellarawa in Sri Lanka is Benji, founded in 2007 following the success of the previously inaugurated Omega, Sirio and Alpha production facilities. The proprietary factories collaborate with one another to boost the efficiency and quality of the production process, and Benji’s task is to produce and export corsetry items, specialising in moulding bra cups, which it also produces for the other factories. Benji has received a number of accolades for its success, among the latest of which were the Presidential Export Award and the Best Export Award in 2019.

Quality control

Our people

The quality of the working conditions offered to our employees and their professional development are factors that make a decisive contribution to an efficient, fruitful production process in the long term. This is why everyone in the plant – from operators to senior managers – is encouraged to follow both local and international training courses.

Benefits for employees

Employees – 92% of whom are women – are guaranteed a subsidised canteen service, as well as free transport, and the factory offers free healthcare, access to medical facilities and a company gym. In addition, for some years now, a Toastmasters Club has been present in the plant to teach public speaking and leadership techniques to all employees who are interested.

Attention to the community

At Benji, the primary aim is to be a “good neighbour” for the local community, and this is achieved above all by offering employment and development opportunities to everyone living in the Chilaw area, improving the quality of life of employees and their families. In addition to this, Benji lends its support to social, cultural, infrastructural and care projects and activities in the local communities.

Respect for the environment

Being a good neighbour also means protecting and safeguarding the surrounding environment. This is why the plant does not release any liquids into the environment, endeavouring to purify waste water and use it to water the vegetation around the factory. Solid waste, paper, scrap fabric and plastic waste are recycled, while any remaining waste is sent to the waste-to-energy plant. In addition, all lights have been replaced with LED technology in order to boost energy efficiency.

The people who work for us have always been our most valuable resource, and no presentation of our factories would be complete without a word from them. Here are the stories of those who produce our items every day:

all the stages so that the operation can be a success; another part of my work, however, is helping to train my workers.
The first time I heard of Benji was at the end of a quality control course, when I was offered a period of training here in the factory. Three years after I started here, I received my first promotion, and I’ve moved on up since then to the position I’ve been proud to hold for the last three years. I’ve been working in Benji for 13 years now, and it’s a decision I’ve never regretted. As I see it, Benji has always created a safe, pleasant working environment, while at the same time continuing to offer a good salary.
Something else I really appreciate is the role the plant plays in the life of the community, by providing funding for schools, hospitals and temples, or by helping our country in emergency situations, such as natural disasters, or during this pandemic.

of the factory, working specifically on producing bras and briefs. Working at Benji has meant a lot to me, allowing me to become an independent woman and teaching me to be more flexible, better at making decisions and more patient, as well as able to take on leadership roles.
Working in Benji has undoubtedly given me major financial stability, but it’s great to be aware of the attention the factory pays to its employees. For me, Benji is not only a workplace; it’s also an opportunity for personal growth, a place where my achievements are recognised and where I’ve made wonderful memories.
