Informed commitment in each and every project

To succeed in improving the lives of our employees, customers and the environment around us is a clear objective that has always been part of our culture and evolution.

As part of this route, we have studied and appreciated the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda and its 17 goals (or “SDGs”).

We have identified the quantitative and qualitative indicators that are best suited, in our situation, to measure progress according to the route set out by the SDGs, also taking into account the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) recommendations.

Defeat poverty - Professional development is the main way by which to achieve economic stability and a dignified life. This is why we are committed, including through the work of our Foundation, which supports projects dedicated to training and employment inclusion, to actively helping improve living and working conditions amongst the poorest, most excluded sections of society, contributing towards assuring social dignity and economic solidity for their work, reducing the scourge of poverty in these societies.

Clean water and sanitary services - For years now, the company has been implementing practices to limit the impact of production on this valuable resource as far as possible and developed systems by which to distribute it to employees as drinking water, free of charge.

Clean, accessible energy – In a bid to reduce the impact of its business on the earth’s resources, the Calzedonia Group is acting on various fronts: self-production of energy, procurement from renewable sources and enhancing the efficiency of its civil and industrial plants.

Responsible consumption and production – Our sustainability process can only be effective if it is implemented by the company as a whole. This is why the Calzedonia Group has for years taken a forefront role in the organisation and implementation of initiatives in its stores, like the recycling campaigns, that encourage consumers to adopt sustainable, ethical behaviour.

Calzedonia Group priorities

Best practices in terms of non-financial reporting restrict the subject of company effort to the topics most relevant to stakeholders.

In 2017, through an internal materiality analysis, the Calzedonia Group identified the priorities to focus its efforts on, comparing available documentation on the market and the results of other companies in the industry, nationally and internationally.

The process, which is inspired by the Guidelines to the Global Reporting Initiative Standards 2016, took place over three phases:

Research and identify the relevant topics, that is, those of potential interest to the Group and its stakeholders, supported by an examination of the Code of Ethics and by a benchmark analysis on the non-financial reporting produced by the major listed companies in the textile, clothing and retail industry.

Assessment of the relevant topics: in the first two exercises of defining the materiality matrix, the assessment of the priorities to be assigned to the relevant topics, for the Group and external stakeholders, was entrusted to the management of the Group’s main Italian companies. Starting FY 2020, the managers of all Group companies and the main suppliers are expected to be involved.

Identification of material topics. The assessment revealed a first materiality matrix, comprising 7 material topics:

  • Customer satisfaction and safety;
  • Calzedonia Group employee and collaborator well-being and that of their families;
  • Contribution towards social well-being and the communities;
  • Responsible management of manufacturing processes and suppliers;
  • Product innovation;
  • Efficient use of resources;
  • Correct governance.
